If you are looking for kosher restaurants, groceries, or synagogues, you have come to the right place. Bathurst and Steeles constitutes the intersection of these two main through-fares, with the Thornhill border to the north and Toronto to the south. In addition to English, you will hear Hebrew, Russian, and (even) Yiddish being spoken. On the Sabbath you will see people walking to Synagogue, ensuring that they act within the religious framework set by the Torah. While the legendary “Marky’s” is no longer offering their corn-beef sandwiches, you can get some awesome Kosher Chinese at Golden Chopstix.

Getting Around

If you are staying close-by, you can walk everywhere you need to go. If you want to head downtown-perhaps for a sports game-consider taking the Bathurst Street bus (99) to Bathurst Station. Once you get to the subway, everything is easy to navigate. In case you are wondering, internet access is available on subway lines, ensuring that you will not get lost. The signs are clear and well placed, giving you the best chance at arriving at your destination. Even if you end up somewhere different, Toronto is a safe, exciting place to explore.

Things to Do

If you are looking to catch a movie after Shabbos, you have a couple options. Promenade Mall (Bathurst and Clark) hosts a small cinema with a limited variety of choices. However, there are several kosher options in the vicinity, both in the mall and in the surrounding plazas. My favourite combination is to grab a Laffa prior to a movie. Even if we could bring in food from outside, their food is quite messy and will be problematic to eat in the dark!

Just like in Israel, you can enjoy the Aroma Coffee chain. While there are some Kosher stores–like Bathurst and Lawrence–many are not properly supervised by bathurst and steeles a Rabbinical body. In other words, just because something looks Kosher, doesn’t make it so. Many restaurants–like United Bakers-offers Kosher-style food, without the proper certification. They would not serve pork (or meat) but would be unacceptable for Kosher diners.

In Case of Emergency
